New MB&F LM101 Palladium
The mighty MB&F has just released a new product in their Legacy Machine 101 series - the MB&F LM101 Palladium. The 18-piece limited series will feature a palladium case and feature a “vert d’eau” dial (mot-à-mot translates to “water green” – aquamarine or aquamarine). I visited the MB&F MAD gallery and saw MB&F LM101 palladium in metal and these are my impressions. MB&F LM101 Palladium The new Legacy Machine 101 is a continuation of the precious metal selection. The LM101 was previously available in red and white gold, the "Frost" red and gold limited edition, and a spectacular platinum version.
The first thing that strikes me is the attractive luster of the palladium case. The specific silvery white appearance of the platinum group metals (palladium, platinum, rhodium, ruthenium, iridium and osmium) imparts a good appearance. These metals are rare and play a vital role in our daily lives. Think of the catalytic converters in the cars around us (Wikipedia is a good source of information on the subject).
The palladium case looks great. The watch is 40mm in diameter and 16mm in height, with well-balanced dimensions and no gender divide (a frivolous topic that no real collector, lady or gentleman would care about). The brushed case sides contrast with the polished bezel and lugs. In addition, the brushed surface provides a nice introduction to the sunray dial.
Swiss Lake or Polynesian Sea? For those who are used to previous versions of the MB&F LM101, the new dial will look familiar. Again, the center of the dial is dominated by the "flying" balance wheel. This time, striking mechanical details float on calm waters. The "vert d'eau" dial has undefined shades of green, grey, blue. The layout is "relatively" simple. A clean design gives the impression of simplicity, and we all know that's not the case. The central balance wheel catches the viewer's eye. A small raised dial at 6 o'clock indicates the power reserve. The time, hours and minutes are displayed on another small raised dial between 1 and 2 o'clock in the traditional position.
The view offers great legibility thanks to the high contrast of the blue-gold hands on the white enamel. The base dial is engraved with "Legacy Machine" hand-engraved in calligraphy.

Movement is the superlative finish (the official word used to describe movement finish) that is gorgeous respecting the 19th century style. The idea is that the movement bears the "signature" of Kari Voutilainen. When Tradition Only Stops at Completion The new MB&F LM101 Palladium is a gorgeous machine. Regardless, the brand is a big consumer of beauty monikers, and the latest addition is no exception.
I find a palladium case an excellent choice for a "vert d'eau" dial. The exotic case luster complements the exotic dial color. The entire watch is an ultra-modern eye-catching concept that retains the idea of classicism through traditional decoration.
Original Press Release MB&F LM101 Palladium Launched in 2014, the Legacy Machine 101 (LM101) was equipped with the first movement developed entirely in-house by MB&F – which gave rise to a series of in-house developed movements. The latest addition to the collection – the LM101 Palladium Edition – is also the first MB&F piece to be made from the rare silver-white metal palladium. The natural white color of the palladium contrasts with the new sunray dial, which changes between grey and pale blue and green depending on the light.

Visually, the LM101 is dominated by a massive suspended balance wheel, whose steady vibration draws the eye closer. Two pristine white subdials hover above the beautifully engraved sunray movement top plate: at the top right, fine blue-gold hands show clearly legible hours and minutes, contrasting with immaculate white, while 45 hours The power reserve indicator is located in a smaller but similar sub-dial shown below. The two "Frost" limited editions add more contrast between these elements and the effervescent backdrop of the hand-brushed dial.
In an apparent feat of magic, the sapphire crystal protecting the dial appears to be invisible. Creating the illusion that you can reach out and touch the huge balance wheel that hangs mesmerizingly from the elegant double arches. The arches are milled from a solid block of metal and require hours of hand polishing to achieve a mirror-like finish.
Flipping the Legacy Machine 101 over to reveal the crystal of the caseback - domed to reduce the thickness of the case and visually reduce the height of the watch - showcases the beautifully hand-finished movement. The sensuously curved bridges and bridges pay homage to the style of high-quality historical pocket watches and demonstrate respect for historical legitimacy.
With its undulating Côtes de Genève, hand-polished bevels, gold sleeves and countersunk blue screws, the beauty of the LM101's movement is not only faithful to a bygone era. It also heralded a new era, as it was the first MB&F movement conceived and designed entirely in-house.
